Walt Disney Cruise
Disney Cruise Line is owned by The Walt Disney Company and headquartered in Celebration, Florida. The business is run by President Tom McAlpin as part of the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts division.
It operates two cruise ships, the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder, along with Castaway Cay, a private island in the Bahamas designed as an exclusive port of call for Disney's ships.
The Disney Magic began operation July 30, 1998. The Disney Wonder began operation August 15, 1999. The Disney Magic and Walt Disney Cruise Disney Wonder have 875 and 874 staterooms respectively. The ships are virtually identical in their design, with a few variations Walt Disney Cruise in restaurants and entertainment venues. Both contain areas designed exclusively for various age groups, including toddlers, young Walt Disney Cruise children, teens, and adults.
They are the first in the industry to be designed and built from the keel up as family cruise liners, with the goal of accommodating parents and Walt Disney Cruise children. In October 2006, additional family amenities were added to the Disney Wonder including features specifically geared toward toddlers, making the ship even more suitable for families with young children.
Disney Cruise Line was created in 1995 when the company commissioned its two ships at Fincantieri in Italy, ending an arrangement with Premier Cruises Walt Disney Cruise for the maritime segment of its vacation packages.
In February, 2007, Disney Cruise Line announced plans to build two new ocean ships. The ships are approximately 50% larger than the Magic and Wonder, and are scheduled to launch in 2011 and 2012. The company signed a letter of Walt Disney Cruise intent to negotiate a contract to build the 122,000-ton new cruise ship with Meyer Werft shipyard, based in Papenburg, Germany.
Disney Cruise Line offers three-, four- and seven-night cruises to various destinations in the Caribbean; a daytime stop at Castaway Cay is included in all itineraries. About Disney Cruise Line When Disney execs decided to enter the cruise business they looked back to the 1920's for Walt Disney Cruise inspiration. The result: Both the Magic and Wonder resemble luxurious ocean liners of a bygone era that just happen to have all the modern bells and whistles to boot. The twin ships' elongated dark blue hulls, matching Walt Disney Cruise red funnels and elaborate yellow insignias make these sleek ships a beautiful sight to behold in port.
Inside, the ambience is casually elegant with plenty of subtle nods to the Mouse that started it all, from the etched-in-pewter Walt Disney Cruise characters bordering the atrium to the hidden mini Mickeys in the adults-only restaurant's china pattern. What Disney Cruise Line does best though is prove that "elegant" and "family friendly" don't have to be mutually exclusive.
Disney offers one of the most unique cruise experiences afloat. With these ships, Disney has introduced a number of innovations. Chief among them are its cabins with a bath-and-a-half and a rotating Walt Disney Cruise dining room schedule in which passengers eat at three Walt Disney Cruise different restaurants, albeit with the same tablemates and wait staff. It was the first cruise line to launch the "soda card" concept, an idea which has been picked up by competitors, and Walt Disney Cruise now they've even gone one better, offering Walt Disney Cruise soda gratis in the three restaurants and at the self-service beverage station on the pool deck.
Equally distinctive is what Disney ships don't have: casinos or libraries.
